| When I was a child, when Memorial Day was still Decoration Day and Veterans Day was still Armistice Day, we bought red paper poppies from veterans and wore them on our coats as we watched the parade. There were soldiers from WWI and WWII -- and maybe even some from the Spanish- American war. There were cars filled with Gold Star Mothers. And now there are so many more veterans and Gold Star families. As I honor and remember, I feel sad that we have not learned that war is not the answer. |
